Stories from PackoLoopo

Examples of how a quick, friendly pickup can send packaging to someone who needs it instead of to the trash.

  • Pallets · Sacramento, California

Two pallets that wouldn't fit in the trash can

Mark had two pallets left behind his garage after a delivery. They wouldn't go in the curbside bin, and they wouldn't fit in his car for a trip to the transfer station. He posted them on PackoLoopo. Rosa, who runs a small landscaping business, stopped by on her way home and loaded both into her pickup.

    What they gained

    • Mark: cleared out the pallets without hauling them anywhere
    • Rosa: made a short detour and got two sturdy pallets for her work
  • Cardboard boxes · Oakland, California

Moving boxes from the neighbor down the street

Jasmine, a grad student, was getting ready to move to a new apartment. New moving boxes were adding up fast. On PackoLoopo she found a listing from Linda, a neighbor a few blocks away who orders online a lot and always has a stack of shipping boxes in the garage.

    What they gained

    • Linda: got her garage back, and the boxes stayed in use
    • Jasmine: saved money, had boxes the same day and met a neighbor
  • Egg cartons · San Diego, California

Egg cartons for the backyard flock

Daniel keeps a few hens in his backyard and shares extra eggs with friends, but he kept running out of cartons. On PackoLoopo he found several neighbors nearby with clean egg cartons sitting in their pantries and picked them up on his evening walk.

    What they gained

    • The neighbors: their egg cartons got another use instead of going in the bin
    • Daniel: shared his eggs without buying new cartons

Free to pick up: boxes, jars, pallets and crates

PackoLoopo is for packaging that still has another use ahead of it: cardboard boxes, glass jars, egg cartons, pallets, crates and other packing materials. Pick a category to see free listings near you.

Used packaging: a quick guide

PackoLoopo is a free platform for giving away used packaging with local pickup. Businesses and individuals list cardboard boxes, glass jars, egg cartons, pallets and crates, and people nearby book a pickup time and collect them themselves. Below are answers to the questions people ask most when giving away or looking for packaging.

How do I give away used boxes for free?

Post a listing on PackoLoopo: add a photo, the number and sizes of the boxes, and the hours when they can be picked up, and set the price to 0. Someone nearby books a pickup and comes during the time you chose. You don't ship, drop off or pack anything.

  1. Break the boxes down flat and tie them with twine or tape.
  2. Put the type and number in the title, e.g. “Moving boxes, 20 total”.
  3. Give the size of the largest boxes and whether they are single or double wall.
  4. Choose pickup hours that actually work for you.

Where can I get free moving boxes near me?

The easiest source is a neighbor who just finished moving, or a store that gets deliveries in boxes every day. On PackoLoopo, enter your city or zip code or click “Near me”, check “Free” and choose Cardboard boxes. Results show how far each listing is from you.

Who is PackoLoopo for?

For businesses with a regular packaging surplus: grocery stores, restaurants, cafés, bakeries, warehouses and small e-commerce sellers. A listing can be set as recurring, so after a pickup it comes back as a new batch.

For people who just moved, remodeled or got a furniture delivery, and for those looking for packaging: home canners, backyard chicken keepers, community gardeners, people shipping packages and DIY fans.

How much does used packaging cost on PackoLoopo?

Using PackoLoopo is free and we take no commission. Most listings are free; the person giving packaging away can also set a small price for the whole lot, which you settle at pickup. Never pay anything in advance. Booking a pickup costs nothing.

Is pickup safe, and who sees my address?

On the map we show a point shifted roughly 200 to 500 feet from the pickup spot. Only the person who booked the pickup sees the exact address and directions. Listings that break the rules can be reported with the “Report” button, and every report is reviewed by a person.

Why give packaging away instead of throwing it out?

In the EPA's waste management hierarchy, source reduction and reuse rank above recycling. A box, jar or pallet that someone uses again stays in use longer, and someone else doesn't have to buy new. When packaging can't be used anymore, recycle it according to your city's or county's rules.

List them on PackoLoopo with the price set to 0. Someone nearby picks them up during the hours you choose. Wet or torn boxes can go in your curbside recycling if your city accepts cardboard.

Where can I donate empty glass jars?
